Love and forgiveness might seem like vague concepts for journalists to turn into a news story. But with boldface names like the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu jointly receiving the first-ever Fetzer Prize for Love and Forgiveness this week, the task is easier. And ReligionLink can help, too.
The award by the Fetzer Institute to the Dalai Lama and Tutu (the latter could not attend due to a ruptured disc) was presented Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at the World Peace Summit in Vancouver, British Columbia. The summit is convened under the auspices of the World Peace Forum Society of Vancouver.
Along with the Dalai Lama, several Nobel Peace Prize laureates and other world leaders attended the three-day summit in a public dialogue on love and forgiveness.
ReligionLink has a comprehensive source guide to experts and resources on these topics, which have a newsworthy immediacy in today’s world.
The Fetzer Institute is based in Kalamazoo, Mich., and traces its grant-making activities back to 1954.
The Vancouver Sun‘s religion writer, Doug Todd, reports from behind the scenes at the Peace Summit.
